Onboard Norwegian Bliss, guests are able to eat whenever and wherever they want at any of the dining venues onboard. Guests can choose to either eat at any one of the specialty dining venues or at one of the complimentary dining restaurants. Not surprisingly, the Norwegian Bliss has a beautiful state-of-the-art spa facility on Deck 16. And the ones that I was able to sample (a bamboo massage and facial) were excellent. One of them was designated as the “main pool” while the other was designated as “adults only.” Somewhat oddly, the “main pool” seemed like the smaller of the two. During our sailing, we were told that there’s a rule that all male guests cannot wear shirts on the double slide.

If you are taking the Norwegian Bliss on an Alaskan Cruise or even a West Coast cruise, don’t forget that it evenings get chilly, even in the summer, and especially on the water. While walking around the Waterfront on deck 8 one evening I was actually wishing I had packed a small pair of lightweight gloves. Anyway, the cruise I’m reporting on here was my second on the Bliss to Alaska, but was significant in that it was the very first Alaska cruise across all lines and ships of the 2024 season. It was also my first time cruising solo on the Bliss (last time I had my son with me). I’ll be providing a detailed trip report from each day as well as highlighting some features I loved about the Bliss (and a few I didn’t) and some tips for those booked on or considering her. Deck 7 also has the dining rooms for Local, the 24-hour eatery and The Manhattan Room, one of the main dining rooms. The upper level of the Bliss Theater is also located on Deck 7. The Thermal Suite is where I think the Mandara Spa on the Bliss shines. You’ll find a salt room, snow room, steam room, and sauna, in addition to the Vitality Pool. The Vitality Pool is a warm pool with button activated jets around the edges of the pool. There is also a button activated waterfall that can give you an amazing shoulder massage.

At max cruising speed, ship's engines consume ~11 tons of diesel fuel per hour. NCL Bliss new "scrubbers" (exhaust gas cleaning systems) as technology reduce the equivalent of approx 1500 tons of Sulfur Oxide (poisonous gas). The five in-line scrubbers are lightweight and able to operate in a dry mode, as well as in open and closed loops.
The Aqua Park has two waterslides as well as two pools. Since we were on a May cruise out of Seattle, we didn’t get many opportunities to try the water park on board. However, Paul and Mia brave the slight chill one day and gave the slides a try for me.
With that said, Norwegian Bliss does have the cruise line's excellent kids' club, Splash Academy, which is divided into three groups by age; a third club is for teens. All are located on Deck 5, one deck beneath the atrium and well out of the way of any spaces the rest of the passengers would typically be found. A jogging track on Deck 17 is technically open before 9 a.m. And then again after 6 p.m., but we saw people using it during the day. Be warned, the jogging track overlaps with deck space surrounding popular spots like the water slides and Margaritaville and non-joggers have right of way during the daytime.
If I’m being honest the mini golf course feels like a bit of an afterthought on the Bliss. One of my biggest complaints about the Bliss is the loss of outdoor activity space like we enjoyed on the Norwegian Getaway. The race track is certainly awesome and fun to try, but my girls said they wished they had the ropes course still. The mini golf course of 5 holes seems to be the only space left for NCL to add some more outdoor play space.
They actually have a trap door built into the slide in case someone isn’t heavy enough to make it up the loop and slides back down. It happens, I’m not supposed to know it happens but I kinda saw someone getting “extracted”. So, this isn’t a time to lie about your kids’ weight.
We found better options among the venues on Deck 8, which also provided the opportunity for outdoor seating on the Waterfront. The Waterfront is basically a boardwalk-style promenade deck with the ocean on one side and various restaurants and seating areas on the other. The specialty restaurants all required additional fees or the purchase of a restaurant package (available as a “free at sea” promotional perk).
